Information concerning the use of video identification

In order to permit the use of certain applications, federal regulations stipulate that the Swiss Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) must carry out a one-time personal identification of users by verifying their valid passport or identity card. For this purpose, a video identification procedure has to be carried out in collaboration with Swisscom (Schweiz) AG (“Swisscom”).

By using the video identification procedure you confirm that you have read and understood these conditions of use and are in agreement with them. In particular you confirm that you are aware that the video identification procedure is provided by Swisscom and that your data will be entered directly on its corresponding home page.

How the video identification procedure works

When you use the video identification procedure a secure connection will be established between your computer, smartphone or tablet and Swisscom. After you have correctly and truthfully entered your personal data and the applicable transaction number on the Swisscom homepage, a video chat will be initiated with a specially trained Swisscom employee. During this process, images of you and your passport or identity card will be captured. For this purpose you will be asked to hold your passport or identity card in various positions in front of the camera. The Swisscom employee will then compare the details indicated on the passport or identity card with the data you entered in the system.

The collected data will be forwarded to FEDRO upon completion of the identification procedure. For revision purposes the data will be retained for up to 10 years after the user account linked to the identity has been cancelled, and will subsequently be deleted.

Requirements for successful video identification

  • You must hold a valid passport or identity card.
  • You need a computer equipped with a camera and microphone, or a smartphone or tablet with an Android or iOs operating system.
  • The image and sound quality of your device must be of good enough quality to permit unmistakeable identification.
  • You are required to give your consent to the fact that the entire exchange with the Swisscom employee will be recorded, that images will be captured of yourself and your passport or identification card and that the collected data will be forwarded to FEDRO.
