FAQ

What are traffic data?

The term "traffic data" refers to statistics concerning traffic movements on the road network relating to time, location and situation.
Examples:

  • Traffic volume
  • Traffic volume by vehicle category
  • Traffic volume by vehicle weight
  • Traffic volume by speed
  • Traffic development
  • Traffic peaks
  • Traffic composition
  • Hydrographs

What does "validation" mean?

Validation procedures are used for verifying statistics from the point of view of plausibility and completeness. For any implausible or missing data, projection or reference values are used for obtaining alternative figures that closely correspond to reality.

How is traffic counted automatically?

Automatic traffic counts are carried out electronically using induction loops integrated into the road surface as sensors. The staggered placing of these sensors allows us to count the number of passing vehicles on both lanes, and by using dual loops and suitable electronic classification devices we are also able to identify vehicle types as well as record their speeds.
