Director
Rudolf Dieterle (born 1950), who holds a PhD in civil engineering from the Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, took up the position of Director of the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) in May 2003. He graduated from the FIT Zurich as a civil engineer in 1973. Between 1974-1981 he was an assistant lecturer and doctoral student at the Institute of Structural Engineering where he obtained his PhD in 1981. Parallel to these activities, he also completed a degree at the Law Faculty of Zurich University which he obtained in 1979.
His professional career began in 1981 in the construction division of Suiselectra. In 1982 he moved to Techdata AG in Basel, where he was managing director. From 1987 he was also Delegate of the Board of Directors and Chairman responsible for the expansion and growth of the firm. Between 1998 and April 2003 he was canton Bern's Chief Civil Engineer (Department of Public Works, Transport and Energy for canton Bern).
